this monday morning. did you see the closing ceremonies of the olympics in rio. >> this morning, many people talking about this, the epic entrance of japan's prime minister. a big tease for the tokyo olympics. we will have much more just ahead. but first, a check on the monday forecast. >> yeah, a quiet start as we start a brand new work and school week in tampa bay. and we are starting off on a warm note here, 80 degrees for 77 in clearwater. and getting your day started cooler there for zephyrhills, 72 degrees this morning. overall, not a bad start. the radar is completely quiet out there this morning. and we do carry a rain chance, only about a 10% chance and then the storms start to develop. only about a 20% chance through the afternoon. and they'll favor our inland locations and in the meantime, it stays warm. 92degrees. so heating up later on today.
heating up, the tropics at 5:38. first, another check of the roads. so far, it's been fairly quiet. >> yeah, no heating up on the roadways. i'm enjoying it. a nice drive, 275 on the sunshine skyway bridge. that's going to take about 10 minutes. and howard frankland bridge, looking at about a six minute commute there. and let's talk about bradenton and sarasota that's back to school there. between state road 64 down to fruitville road on 75, that's only a nine minute commute. and then in sarasota, clark and that's going to take you 11 minutes. we don't have delays yet on the tamiami trail as well. that's a look at weather and traffic. back to gene and gayle. >> thank you, leslee. the zika virus appears to be spreading in south florida with several new cases confirmed in miami beach over the weekend. now bay area leaders are preparing just in case they need to protect citizens there. 8 on your side's ryan hughes is live in tampa this morning.
morning. >> reporter: well, gayle, good morning once again. the mayor and code enforce. officials will discuss ways to prevent mosquitoes from breeding. and they'll use this vacant home here as a backdrop later this morning. the mayor will unveil the city's efforts to protect tampa residents from the zika virus. there vice president been any non-travel related cases -- there haven't been any non- travel related s area but several have been confirmed in miami-dade county. 36 zika virus cases have originated in florida to-date. 488 people in the state have zika virus due to travel to countries where it's prevalent. and pregnant women are most at risk because the virus can have devastating consequences for an unborn baby. and back live right now, 8 on your side will be here at 10:30 when the mayor speaks.
taking drastic measures because of zika virus. i will explain that coming up soon. >> well, it's the good to see that local leaders are trying to get on the forefront of this. all right. thank you, ryan. time now 5:34. hillsborough county deputies are questioning a man who walked to an apartment complex after being shot. he knocked on the door and told the people inside that he was shot. this is on english hi with non-life-threatening injuries and investigators are trying to figure out where the shooting happened. and the body of the mayor of chiefland was recovered sunday morning after a joint search effort on the river. the mayor did not return from an afternoon dive friday afternoon. and his body was found near the landing. the mayor recently won re- election and has served the city since 2004.

many of us take road trips over the weekend so if you were in the orlando area, you may have been stuck in traffic. >> a car veered off 408 near downtown orlando and was dangling off the overpass. you will never believe who was inside tampa news center with the video. >> reporter: yeah, it was a mom and son and now that mother is charged with careless driving. here is the video. it's an fdot camera along 408. the crash is in the median. witnesses saw the car veer left, hit the barrier and then flip landing on the roof, dangling 20 feet above the road below. fire-rescue responded using a
secure the car and keep it from sliding. mom and child were pulled out, taken to local hospitals and as you just saw, a crane was brought in to remove the car and get traffic move again. mother and son are going to be okay but the mom is charged with careless driving. gayle, paramedics say the two were remarkably calm. but you can imagine, hanging upside in the seat belt, really scary stuff. >> yeah, i bet you mom was just trying to st son calm. i can't imagine. thank you so much. across america this morning, a 10-year-old boy who was critically injured in a multi-vehicle crash in new york has died. this was the scene sunday morning on the long island expressway. a former aide of new york governor andrew cuomo was killed in the crash. investigators say the boy's father who also died was behind the wheel of a sub rue that lost control -- subaru that
were injured. in ohio, nine people were hit by a car that plowed into a crowd at an outdoor concert. this morning, two of them are in serious condition. a 74-year-old woman was leaving the community concert and accidentally hit the gas pedal instead of the brakes and she drove right on to the dance floor. the woman who has not been identified could still face serious charges including reckless driving and vehicular assault. time now 545:67:89 and lots of clean-up in phoenix, arizona. the huge dust storm rolled through the city sunday afternoon. and you can see the dust cloud covering parts of the city. at times, visibility was down to just a quarter of a mile or less. the national weather service issued a warning for the phoenix area and a number of the neighboring communities there. the storm also delayed several flights at skyharbor international airport. this morning, operations are back to normal. and in central california,
this large fire. it's known as the chimney fire and it's grown to more than 27,000 acres. this morning, it continues to move towards the historic castle near the lake. 48 structures have been destroyed. and more than 300 remain threatened. officials say the flames are 35% contained and no word on what caused this fire. in this morning's medical report, a new plea pediatricians to fight opioid addiction. use disorders include heroin addiction and have more than doubled over the past 25 years. that's why the american academy of pediatrics is recommending that doctors consider treating young patients with medications that help build long term sobriety. listen up, you may want to discourage your kids from dieting. yep, teens whose parents focus
